The Occupational Health and Safety agencies in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador have worked cooperatively to produce this OHS video database in an effort to make this educational material more readily available to all clients.
Centre for Organizational Research and Development
The Government of Canada created a new permanent program to establish 2000 research professorships titled Canada Research Chairs. Canadian universities both nominate Canada Research Chairs and administer their funds. Each eligible degree-granting institution receives an allocation of Chairs. For each Chair, a university nominates a researcher whose work complements its strategic research plan and who meets the program's high standards.
The CN Centre for Occupational Health and Safety was created in 2002 as a centre of excellence within Saint Mary’s University. Comprised primarily of faculty members and assisted by graduate students, the Centre’s objective is to build research capacity within the field of occupational health and safety including occupational health psychology. The Coalition Against Workplace Violence is comprised of a number of Nova Scotia unions (NSGEU, NSTU, NSNU, and CUPE). The presidents of each of these unions decided to meet on a regular basis to discuss issues of common concern to workers represented by all four unions. This program is designed for individuals who are currently or will be responsible for the design and coordination of health safety plans for their organization. Graduates of the program will have acquired the systems necessary to manage and control loss, to identify and protect against potential liabilities and to ensure compliance of existing federal and provincial regulatory requirements. The mission at the FSSNS is to develop and deliver cost effective, quality training programs. These programs will ensure a safe work environment and a skilled work force for the Forestry Industry of Nova Scotia, in compliance with Industry and Government regulations. This is a non-profit organization, funded by a levy, not to exceed 3 percent, on Workers Compensation Assessment. This is a one year OH&S certificate program (2 Semester(s)) offered at the Pictou Campus. Successful completion of this program will results in a Certificate of Accomplishment. The Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association is a not-for-profit association funded by, and responsible to, the construction industry. The NSCSA offers safety training and audits to promote a positive culture shift in the construction industry. Nova Scotia Environment and Labour is responsible for delivering effective and efficient regulatory management for the protection of our environment and the health and safety of Nova Scotians. One goal of the department is to establish and enforce clear standards to reduce occupational injury and illness. The Nova Scotia Environmental Health Centre is dedicated to care of people with chronic illness related to the environment; research into causes and effective treatments and education. The Labour Relations Board and Construction Industry Panel help to resolve disputes between labour and management that relate to the Trade Union Act. The Nova Scotia Trucking Safety Association facilitates the delivery of quality, effective training programs to ensure a safe working environment and a skilled work force in the trucking industry in Nova Scotia in compliance with Industry and Government Regulations.

As a key part of Nova Scotia's Workplace Safety and Insurance System. This department enforces the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. A non-profit, voluntary nurses interest group for nurses who are either working, interested, or want to enter the field of occupational health; or their job description involves the field of Occupational, Safety, Environmental, Wellness and Health. The Workers' Advisers Program is a legal clinic that is funded by the provincial government offering services to injured workers. The Workers' Compensation Appeals Tribunal is an independent tribunal which hears and decides appeals from final decisions of the Workers' Compensation Board. The WCB provides injury prevention information and education; protection from legal action; financial and health-care benefits; rate incentive programs; and co-ordination of the partners in the workplace safety and insurance system.
